Mother Worries Son will go back to jail

Sue Freeman a Christchurch mother is desperate to keep her 19 year old adopted son out of Jail.

Andrej Michael Schwaab will be released on Wednesday after serving more than two years in Christchurch Men's Prison. He was in prison for a 2010 car stealing rampage that led him to his arrest at gunpoint in Nelson.

Sue Freeman worries for her son, who she describes as a 'very damaged young man'.
Judge Phillip Morgan has indicated home detention for Andrej. It will be up to Andrej's mother to  decide whether to keep him in line on her own during the week from Wednesday.

Schwaab struggles to cope with stress and many things as he spent his first two years in a Russian orphange, he got no hugs or smiles and still struggles today with calming himself down and reading other facial expressions

Mrs Freeman said prison, next to violent offenders, was the wrong place for her son.

  1. Did you know that there is research about brain development that demonstrates that if you are not shown love, affection, compassion and empathy in your first three years that the frontal lobe of your brain doesn't develop properly and results in the person not being able to naturally attain those traits? Scary isn't it?
I feel sorry for the mother who tried to do a kind deed to adopt this boy who was abandoned as a baby. I also feel sorry for the man who as a baby was let down by those who were meant to care for him. This is a sad story Amelia. What do you think?

  2. It must be hard for the mother to hear for the first time that their son is in jail.
